Record return for Crew-1: SpaceX's Crew Dragon "Resilience" made a rare nighttime splashdown on Sunday (May 2), returning Crew-1 astronauts Michael Hopkins, Victor Glover, Shannon Walker and Soichi Noguchi from the space station. The 167 days that Resilience was in orbit came one day shy of doubling the U.S. record set by Skylab 4 in 1974. Dragonship Resilience landed off the coast of Panama City, Florida, in the Gulf of Mexico.

Parts protection: Florida lawmakers have passed legislation to add penalties to finding and keeping spacecraft parts. The Recovery of Spaceflight Assets bill affirms that launch operators retain ownership of their vehicles' components after returning to Earth. Florida residents who find parts must report them to local authorities. Those who do not and keep what they find can be charged with a first degree misdemeanor and face prison time or fines.

Moonshot Museum: When the Moonshot Museum opens in Pittsburgh in the summer of 2022, visitors will get a clear view at the future of lunar exploration. The museum will feature a large window into the clean room where Astrobotic assembles and prepares its landers and rovers for launches to the moon. Interactive exhibits and curated experiences will also encourage careers in space.

New Shepard: Bidding on a seat on Blue Origin's first crewed New Shepard launch began Wednesday (May 5), 60 years after the ship's namesake lifted off on the first U.S. human spaceflight. After sealed and open rounds, the high bidder in a live auction will win his or her place on the mission, which is scheduled for July 20.

'Higher Power': Coldplay has released a mission patch in celebration of their call with the International Space Station on Thursday (May 6). The band connected with European Space Agency astronaut Thomas Pesquet to debut "Higher Power," their new single. "I'm pretty sure this was the first song released in extraterrestrial space before being released on Earth," Pesquet wrote on Twitter.

Space Launch Delta 45: The U.S. Space Force has renamed the 45th Space Wing as Space Launch Delta 45. During its 30 years, the 45th Space Wing at Patrick Air Force Base and Cape Canaveral Air Force Station (now both Space Force) supported nearly 800 military and civil space launches from Florida's Eastern Range. A new emblem for the delta draws from the space wing's insignia.

Cast and crew: Russia's next two Soyuz missions to the International Space Station will be bring separate film projects to orbit. Russian actress Yulia Peresild will fly with director Klim Shipenko on Soyuz MS-19 in October to film "Challenge," the first feature-length movie shot in space. Two months later, Yusaku Maezawa, who already has plans to fly to the moon with SpaceX, will first join his production assistant Yozo Hirano on board Soyuz MS-20 to share his first spaceflight on YouTube.

Tianwen-1 touches down: China has made history landing its first spacecraft on Mars. The country's Tianwen-1 lander and Zhurong rover touched down safely on Utopia Planitia on Friday (May 14). China is now only the second country to successfully land a probe on Mars after the United States. The Zhurong rover carries instruments to study the terrain and search for subsurface liquid water.

If this headset could talk: The headset that NASA's first flight director Chris Kraft wore in Mercury Mission Control is now for sale. The Western Electric headset is among the more than 100 artifacts and mementos that Kraft's estate is selling, including flags and medallions flown to the moon. Heritage Auctions will offer the Kraft items as part of its space exploration auction beginning on Friday (May 21).

Space tourist's to do list: Japanese space tourist Yusaku Maezawa, who is set to fly to the International Space Station in December, is seeking 100 ideas for what to do and film for his YouTube channel while in space. The public is invited to submit ideas through May 30. Maezawa will pick his favorites and award those who submitted them with mission patches personalized with their names.

Dinos in Space: The only Tyrannosaurus Rex to be stitched together in space finds a few friends in "Dinos in Space," astronaut Karen Nyberg's new apparel line for Svaha USA. Inspired by her time in space and her son's interest in dinosaurs, Nyberg designed the glow-in-the-dark clothing based in part on the toy T-Rex she made from fabric she found on the International Space Station.

Dinosaur bones in space: Before it begins launching people, Blue Origin sent dinosaur bones into space. The fossil fragments from a 65 million year old Dromaeosaurus flew in April on the company's New Shepard launch vehicle in support of the non-profit Club for the Future and its Dream Big Alabama initiative. Some of the bones will be gifted to the sponsors of the Huntsville Science Festival.

From New Mexico to space: Virgin Galactic has reached space for the first time from its New Mexico commercial headquarters. The space tourism company conducted the test flight from Spaceport America with chief pilot David Mackay and former NASA astronaut Frederick "CJ" Sturckow aboard the SpaceShipTwo "Unity." The suborbital flight on Saturday (May 22) made Sturckow the first person in history to launch to space from three U.S. states.

EAA Engle exhibit: The EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) Aviation Museum is set to open its second astronaut-devoted exhibit on June 4. The Joe Engle Archive Collection will display X-15 and space shuttle artifacts from the career of the first astronaut to test fly two different winged craft. The exhibit will also show items from Engle's wife, Jeanie, whose career at NASA spans nearly 40 years.
