These swatches of fabric were cut from the parachute that Valentina Tereshkova wore to descend to the ground after orbiting the Earth 48 times, reentering the atmosphere and ejecting from Vostok 6. During her flight, Tereshkova used the call sign "Chaika" ("Seagull"), broadcasted television to viewers in the Soviet Union, and maintained radio contact with her fellow cosmonaut Valery Bykovsky, who was also in orbit on-board Vostok 5. These swatches were certified by Col. M.Y. Temper with the Kiev Cosmonautics Museum.
