Gemini 4 Flown Silk Flag

0263. Flown U.S. Silk Flag

Carried into open space in one of Ed White's PPKs which he carried sewn into a special pouch on the left leg of his spacesuit. In this flag were wrapped a Cross, a St. Christopher's Medal and a Star of David. After the flight, the three religious symbols were displayed at the New York World's Fair and were written up I the October 1965 issue of Guideposts magazine, edited by Norman Vincent Peale. The flag, a "Thank You" letter from Norman Vincent Peale and a picture of the cover of the Guideposts magazine are professionally double matted and framed (19.5x26"). An original Guidepost magazine is mounted in a pocket on the reverse of the frame. A picture of three religious leaders holding the three different symbols and signed by Norman Vincent Peale is included. A unique flag which shows staining and imprints of the symbols.
