— "The Right Stuff" has again reached the International Space Station.

At 11:40 p.m. EDT on Saturday (Aug. 30), a Russian cargo spacecraft delivered three tons of food, water and supplies to the space station's residents.

As NASA science officer Edward Lu and ISS Expedition 7 commander Yuri Malenchenko unpack the Progress M-48 spacecraft, they will find a surprise gift from collectSPACE: a cast and crew-autographed DVD copy of the 1983 film, "The Right Stuff."

"We wanted to send something that embodied our focus and our readers, including our community of space history and artifact enthusiasts," Robert Pearlman, collectSPACE founder and editor, said.

"The DVD release of the special edition of 'The Right Stuff' coincided with our search and, once signed, we knew we had found our gift for the crew," said Pearlman.

Members of the original cast and crew autographed the now-in-space DVD at a 20th anniversary celebration of the movie held in Los Angeles in June.

Chuck Yeager, the first to break the sound barrier and the film's technical advisor also autographed the DVD.

The station crew has a DVD player available for their use and while a previous edition of "The Right Stuff" is known to be already on the orbiting outpost, the expanded edition with hours of added footage should be a welcome addition to their movie library.

"The Right Stuff" Special Edition set has more than three hours of bonus features, which include four documentaries (three created specifically for the film's 20th anniversary), selected commentaries with castmembers and filmmakers, 15 minutes of never-before-seen footage from the film and an interactive timeline complete with archival footage and events highlighting humankind's leap into space.

The Progress M-48 (12P) craft lifted off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at 9:48 p.m. EDT on August 28, as the station passed over the Atlantic Ocean, east of South America, at an altitude of 240 miles. The uncrewed resupply spacecraft docked to the aft port of the Russian Zvezda service module.
