Sally Ride stamp: The United States Postal Service on Wednesday (Feb. 28) set May 23 for the release of its new Sally Ride postage stamp. A dedication ceremony will be held in La Jolla, California. Ride, who died at age 61 in 2012, made history as the first American woman to fly in space 35 years ago. The USPS also set April 6 as the first day of issue for a stamp depicting the Apollo spacecraft.

Barbie's hidden figure: Katherine Johnson, the NASA mathematician who calculated the trajectories for early U.S. human spaceflights as a "human computer," is the model for one of Barbie's new "Inspiring Women" dolls. The "hidden figure" turned fashion doll was designed with close input by Johnson. Announced in celebration of International Women's Day, Mattel will release the doll for sale in May.

Searching for Skylab: Nearly 45 years after its launch into Earth orbit, the United States' first space station has been largely forgotten, a new documentary contends. "Searching for Skylab," from Dwight Steven-Boniecki, seeks to correct for the oversight and restore the orbital workshop to public view. A Kickstarter campaign to raise $20,000 will complete the film in time for its premiere, slated for July.

'Making History' in Kerbal: Private Division and Squad on Tuesday (March 13) released Making History, the first expansion for Kerbal Space Program. The add-on enables players to choose from missions inspired by historic Space Race events and build spacecraft based on Russian and U.S. rockets. Among the vehicles now possible are the Vostok, Soyuz, Gemini and Apollo Saturn V booster.

Destination Moon: The Smithsonian touring exhibition, "Destination Moon: The Apollo 11 Mission," featuring Columbia, the spacecraft that carried Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins to the moon, ended its run at Space Center Houston on Sunday (March 18) following five months on display. The exhibit, which includes 20 Apollo 11 artifacts, will next open April 14 at the Saint Louis Science Center in Missouri as the second leg of its four-city tour.

MS-08 lifts off: A plush mascot for the 2018 FIFA World Cup began floating on board the Soyuz MS-08 spacecraft about nine minutes after its launch Wednesday (March 21). The "zero-g indicator" signaled the start of a two-day trip for cosmonaut Oleg Artemyev and astronauts Drew Feustel and Ricky Arnold, as they embarked to rendezvous with the International Space Station to join Expedition 55.

'Dark Side' for Apollo 8: Omega, the Swiss watchmaker that produced the chronographs worn by astronauts on missions to the moon, has revealed the "Dark Side of the Moon" for the 50th anniversary of Apollo 8. The $9,750 timepiece has a skeletonized dial that reveals a blackened, laser-ablated movement, replicating the lunar surface.

'One Strange Rock': Astronauts are Earth's storytellers in National Geographic's new 10-part TV series "One Strange Rock," debuting Monday (March 26). With Will Smith as host, "One Strange Rock" looks at our planet from the perspective of those who left it, revealing how the story of the Earth is interconnected with their experiences in orbit and with all life on the ground. The series was filmed on six continents and aboard the International Space Station.

To protect and preserve: The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy has submitted to Congress an 8-page report with its recommendations on how best to protect and preserve the Apollo moon landing sites. The assessment, which Congress mandated in 2017, finds historic, cultural and scientific reasons to safeguard the six lunar heritage sites and their artifacts, but has reservations about hindering commercial efforts in the process or having to amend or negotiate new international treaties to do so.

100th expedition EVA: Two U.S. astronauts went outside the International Space Station to retrieve and install hardware on Thursday (March 29), marking the 100th spacewalk by expedition crew members. Drew Feustel and Ricky Arnold added new wireless communication antennas and replaced a faulty standard definition camera, as well as retrieved a pair of jumper cables during the six-hour EVA.
