Private crew chronographs: The Polaris Dawn crew will wear special wristwatches as they attempt to fly higher than any previous human mission in Earth orbit and perform the first commercial spacewalk. The Pilot's Watch Chronograph Edition "Polaris Dawn" was designed by IWC Schaffhausen to meet the needs of the privately-funded mission. The four chronographs will be auctioned post-flight to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

S.S. Sally Ride: Northrop Grumman's 19th (NG-18) Cygnus cargo spacecraft has been named for the first American woman to fly in space. The S.S. Sally Ride will launch atop an Antares 230+ rocket from Wallops Islands in Virginia with supplies for the International Space Station. Ride is the fourth woman honored as a Cygnus namesake.

Good Night Oppy: The first trailer for "Good Night Oppy" has landed, providing a glimpse of Ryan White's documentary about NASA's Opportunity Mars rover. Featuring photo-real visual effects by Industrial Light & Magic and the voice of Angela Bassett, "Good Night Oppy" follows the 15-year journey of the wheeled explorer on the Red Planet.

Tito to the moon: Dennis Tito, who in 2001 became the first self-funded space tourist to fly to the International Space Station, is now planning to fly to the moon. Tito and his wife are booked on SpaceX's second circumlunar Starship flight, a week-long mission that will dip in close to the lunar surface. Ten other seats on the same Starship are still to be sold. A date for the Titos' flight has not been set.

Record-setting Speedmaster: A rare gold Omega Speedmaster chronograph has sold for $1.9 million, setting a new record for the amount paid for an astronaut's timepiece. Presented to Wally Schirra in celebration of the first moon landing in 1969, the commemorative watch was one of the 36 gifted by Omega to NASA's astronauts. The sale, by RR Auction of New Hampshire, outperformed the 2015 auction of a prototype Bulova worn on the moon.

Taste of Space: Fine food will mix with the future of spaceflight when NASA's Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex hosts "Taste of Space: Celebrity Chef Edition" on Nov. 4. The culinary event will feature celebrity chefs Marc Murphy ("Chopped"), Rocco DiSpirito ("Restaurant Divided") and Duff Goldman ("Ace of Cakes") cooking with space shuttle astronauts. Goldman will conclude the "Taste of Space" with the reveal of an "out of this world" cake.

'Last Man on the Moon' Apollo 17 edition: From the director and producers of the 2014 award-winning documentary "The Last Man on the Moon" comes a new short film edition in celebration of 50 years since the Apollo 17 mission. Mark Stewart Productions and Haviland Digital will premiere "The Last Man on the Moon - Apollo 17" at Space Center Houston in December. The 23-minute film features the never-before-heard words of Gene Cernan for the next astronauts to follow in his bootprints and walk on the moon.

Protection policies: A new lunar landing and operations policy analysis published by NASA's Office of Technology, Policy, and Strategy examines some of the challenges that having numerous missions at the moon will create. In addition to surface operations concerns, the report addresses the need to preserve Apollo and other human heritage sites, while recommending restraint when considering the same for future Artemis landing locations.

Fly me to the moon: NASA's 23rd group of astronaut candidates has revealed a patch to represent their class, dubbed "The Flies." The fly-shaped patch has 12 stars for the 12 members, flags for the U.S. and United Arab Emirates and features an astronaut in mid-jump holding out the moon. "And of course the astronaut pose represents our faith in NASA's return to the moon being a slam dunk," wrote Anil Menon, a member of "The Flies," on Instagram.
