March 27, 2026 — Krispy Kreme is getting on board with NASA's Artemis II mission to fly by the moon.
The sweet-treat brand is set to debut the limited edition Artemis II Doughnut in celebration of the first astronauts to launch to Earth's natural satellite in more than 50 years. The special pastry will be available from Tuesday (March 31) through Thursday (April 2) only at participating Krispy Kreme shops across the country.
"Big moments bring people together, and it doesn't get much bigger than humans heading back into deep space," said Alison Holder, Krispy Kreme chief brand and product officer, in a statement. "We took our iconic Original Glazed doughnut and gave it a mission worthy makeover so fans can celebrate Artemis II in a fun, delicious way, right alongside history."
The Artemis II Doughnut is dipped in blue vanilla-flavored icing, sprinkled with a mix of Oreo crunch and white nonpareils, finished with a cookies-and-creme flavored buttercream dollop and topped with a red chevron as a nod to the NASA insignia.
"It's familiar, nostalgic, and mission ready," said the company.
Krispy Kreme's Artemis II Doughnut is available in-shop and for pickup or delivery via Krispy Kreme's app and website. The limited‑edition doughnut is also available as part of the Artemis II Specialty Dozen, featuring six Artemis II Doughnuts and six Original Glazed doughnuts.
The Artemis II crew of Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen are set to become the first people to fly on NASA's Orion spacecraft atop the Space Launch System (SLS) heavy-lift rocket. Glover and Koch will become the first person of color and first woman, respectively, to leave low Earth orbit. Hansen, who is Canadian, will be the first astronaut from a country other than the U.S. to fly to the moon.
The 10-day flight may also take the four astronauts further away from Earth than any prior mission, exceeding the record set by the Apollo 13 crew in 1970. Artemis II is the first step towards NASA's newly-revealed plans to establish a moon base.
The Artemis II Doughnut is Krispy Kreme's latest limited edition treat for NASA missions. In 2022, the brand similarly celebrated Artemis I, the first flight of an uncrewed Orion capsule around the moon, with a one-day-only cheesecake Kreme-flavored filled doughnut dipped in "Cookies 'n Kreme" icing with a swirl of cookie pieces.
In 2019, Krispy Kreme introduced its "Original Filled" doughnut in time with the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11, the first moon landing. Two years later, the shops offered a one-day-only "Mars Doughnut" to mark the landing of the Perseverance rover on the red planet.
Krispy Kreme doughnuts were also sold at the Kennedy Space Center in 1969 to those came out to see the Apollo 11 astronauts launch for the moon that July.
Krispy Kreme is the second doughnut maker to commemorate the Artemis II mission, Tim Hortons in Canada briefly changed the name of its doughnut holes from Timbits to Moonbits to celebrate Hansen's place on the Artemis II mission. The Moonbits, which come in a decorated carton, were exclusive to stores in London, Ontario, the hometown of Canadian Space Agency astronaut Hansen. |
